2016年5月25-26日、アメリカのオハイオ州立大学(OSU) の学生19名が、OSU教授の茨木希先生と森寛子様に引率され、海外学習プログラム(Study abroad program)の一環として本学で研修を行いました。2日目午後に、麻布大学いのち博物館を訪ねました。アメリカの大学の海外学習プログラムの一項目を受け持つことは、当博物館では初めてのことでした。

館内の案内は本学獣医学部の黄鴻堅教授と博物館の伊藤禎人主監が行いました。
アメリカの学生は、大動物骨格標本の保存状態、動物内臓血管系の樹脂化標本、各種動物のそれぞれの環境適応により進化した四肢骨、本学の歴史と科学の融和に関する展示などに関心を示しました。感想を聞くと、「印象的」、「驚くばかり」、「教育的」、「知的情報満載」、「小さいが興味深い」、「素晴らしいコレクション」、「珍しい動物の骨格が多い」などのコメントが多く聞かれました。一方、「展示物の説明に英文も加えて欲しい」、さらに「博物館パンフレットは英語版だけでなくその他の外国語版もあればよいと思う」など、国際的な発展を期待する声も聞かれました。

Ohio State University students visited Life Museum in their study abroad program

Ohio State University (OSU) study abroad program at Azabu University, led by Prof. Motomu Ibaraki and Ms. Hiroko Mori, visited the Life Museum of Azabu University on May 26, 2016. The American delegation, comprising of 19 students, was guided around in the museum by Prof. Ooi Hong Kean of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Mr. Yoshito Ito, administrative officer of the museum. The students were very much impressed by the well-preserved skeletons of the large animals, the comparison of the skeletons of the various animals as they adapt to their locomotive functions through evolution, the combination of history and science of Azabu University as well as the exhibitions. Moreover, they also suggested that the museum can be greatly improved by having more descriptions in English and having a brochure in English or in other foreign languages. On the contrary, they described the museum as impressive, pretty awesome, educational, informative, small but interesting, wide variety of nice collections and having lots of rare skeletons. In addition, they also hope that the museum will expand in the future and having more visitors, as well as keeping on enriching the minds of others.
