4月24日(木)、タイWalailak大学獣医学部Suvichai Rojanasthien学部長とSumalee Boonmar副学部長が来館され、本校獣医学部の森田幸雄教授がご案内されました。飛び入りで来館した本校獣医学部獣医学科5年生の合地拓也さんが、英語での展示解説を行ってくれました。合地さんは、先月来館したWalailak大学獣医学部の学生とも交流しており、その時の話題でも盛り上がりました。

On Thursday, April 24th, the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Walailak University in Thailand, Suvichai Rojanasthien, and the Associate Dean, Sumalee Boonmar, visited our museum. Professor Yukio Morita from our Faculty of Veterinary Medicine guided them during their visit. Mr. Takuya Gochi, a fifth-year student in the Department of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, our university, who happened to be visiting the museum, voluntarily gave an explanation of the exhibition in English. Mr. Gochi had also interacted with students from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Walailak University during their visit last month, and they enjoyed discussing topics from that time.

展示室では、動物種の特徴を比較する展示や、獣医医療器具、また、今年135周年を迎える麻布大学の長い歴史にも大変興味を抱いてご見学いただきました。

In the exhibition room, visitors showed great interest in displays comparing the characteristics of animal species, veterinary medical instruments, and the long history of Azabu University, which is celebrating its 135th anniversary this year.

タイの人々にとってゾウはとても特別な動物だと感じます。ハンズオンコーナーでは、ゾウの下顎や象牙など、様々な骨に触れる体験をしていただきました。

Elephants seem to be very special animals to the people of Thailand. In the hands-on area, they had the opportunity to touch various bones, including the elephant's lower jaw and tusks.

ワライラック大学の獣医学部長および副学部長の方々に勉強させていただいた内容となります。

This is what I studied with the Dean and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Walailak University.

知識は知れば知るほど、見解が深まって様々な方向からもの事を見ることが出来、楽しむことが出来る。だからこそ学ぶということ、学ぶことが出来るという恵まれた環境にあることを改めて知る必要がある。大学はあくまでスタート地点に過ぎず、これから僕たちが新たにどうあるのかが大切だよ。
日本にいるだけでは海外との違いを知ることは少ないかも知れない。だが、日本がいかに安全で、優れているかを知る必要がある。日本はもちろん麻布大学は歴史が長い。そういった強みを活かすべきである。
また、文化の違いを知るということは、より知識や生活を面白いものにしてくれる。そして、国によって流行りの病であったり、常識は異なる。獣医学の面でも、重要視される動物や感染症は違う。そういった違いを知ることが重要である。

the more things you know, the more fun knowledge becomes, because you can see even a thing from different perspectives. That's why you should know the importance of learning itself and that you are blessed to have an environment in which you can learn. University is just the beginning and how you will develop in the future is the most important thing.
You may not have an opportunity to realize the differences between Japan and foreign countries if you only stay in Japan. Japan has good points, such as being a safe country with a long history. If you go abroad, you can appreciate these points more deeply. Not only Japan, but Azabu University too has long history. You should take advantage of these strong points.
In addition, knowing the cultural differences is interesting and sharing such knowledge leads to good communication. Each country has different manners and common senses and, in the medical field, different diseases. Even in the field of veterinary medicine, positions of animals, animal welfare and how to treat animals are different. Knowing these differences are significant and remarkable.
